We Built the Invoicing Tool We Needed - One That Tracks Both Sides of Money
Most software stops at sending invoices. We built WilBill because small business money flows in two directions - what clients owe you, and what you owe vendors - and tracking only half of it leaves you blind.
Why WilBill Exists
In 2024, our team ran a small digital services firm. Like most businesses, we used a popular invoicing app to bill our clients. It looked great on the surface - until we realized we were spending hours every week in separate spreadsheets trying to track what we owed subcontractors, material suppliers, and software vendors.
Our invoicing app told us we had a "great month" because we billed $40,000. But it had no idea we owed $28,000 in vendor bills due the following week. We realized the entire market of freelancer invoicing software was fundamentally single-sided.
So we built WilBill: an all-in-one ledger for freelancers, contractors, and small teams that handles receivables and payables seamlessly in one clean place.
Product Principles
The rules that guide how we design and build WilBill.
Show the work, don't hide it
Every automated feature in WilBill does something specific and visible. If you can't predict what a feature will do before you click it, we consider that a bug in the design.
Both sides of the ledger, always
Any feature we ship gets asked the same question: does this help understand money coming in and money going out? If it only does one, it's incomplete by our definition.
Plain language over jargon
Accounts payable, reconciliation, and forecasting are useful concepts wrapped in intimidating language. We write the product the way we'd explain it to a friend.
Small businesses aren't small enterprises
We don't just strip features out of enterprise accounting software. We build for the actual constraints small businesses have: less time and no dedicated finance team.

Why We Don't Have an AI Assistant
Many financial tools are adding AI chatbots that read your transactions and suggest actions. We intentionally chose not to build one. Financial data requires predictability, clear audit trails, and 100% human confirmation - not conversational guesswork.
